Senate Bean Soup (un toque de humor)

1 lb. white beans
1 cup cooked mashed potatoes sm. bunch celery, chopped, inc. tops
1 ham bone
3 onions, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 tsp. crushed marjoram
1 1/4 cup chopped parsley

Soak beans overnight in cold water. Drain and rinse beans. Put in soup kettle with ham bone and 3 quarts water. Bring to a boil and simmer 2 hours.
Stir in mashed potatoes, celery,garlic cloves, and chopped parsley. Simmer for one hour or until beans are thoroughly cooked. Remove ham bone from kettle and dice meat - returning meat to soup.
May also be made in a crock pot; just combine soaked beans with all ingredients and cook on low 4-6 hours.
